Ftelia is a wide, open bay on the north coast, below Ano Mera. When the meltemi blows in summer it fills with windsurfers and kitesurfers, and the hills around it are dotted with villas, a few hotels and some family houses. Like most of the north coast, the area is not on a central sewer, so properties rely on septic tanks, sealed holding tanks or small wastewater treatment units.

A small hotel with a pool bar and a full kitchen produces far more wastewater than a family house, and in August that difference shows quickly. On strong meltemi days we take extra care with hoses and tank lids so nothing blows about, and we rinse down and leave the area clean before we go. If your tank lid is under gravel, decking or a sunbed, uncover it before we arrive, and tell us if the truck will have to stop on a shared road.

Ftelia is not far from our yard in Marathi, which makes it one of the easier coastal areas for us to reach at short notice. For villas we still prefer changeover mornings, so the job is finished and the drive is clear before the next guests turn up.
