Agios Lazaros is the residential hillside that rises between Psarou and Platis Gialos, on the way from Chora down to the south coast. It feels less like a resort than the beaches below it: alongside rental villas there are family homes lived in all year, older island houses, and new builds going up on the slopes.

That mix of buildings means a mix of systems. Older houses often still have a traditional cesspit, newer villas usually have a sealed holding tank or a wastewater treatment unit, and building sites need temporary tanks emptied while the work goes on. Many houses in Agios Lazaros are reached by narrow concrete lanes off the main road, some of them steep and some shared with neighbours.
